HOW MANY HAIR FOLLICLIES (hair) I NEED?
This is very common question we ask to our self and to hair transplant surgeon that to cover my baldness how many hairs or grafts I need.
Here I am giving you very simple chart ,you can make a rough judgment by seeing it and comparing your scalp status.
Note that this will give you just a rough idea and final decision will be done by your transplant surgeon. This chart is Norwood grading of male patterned baldness.
Even with the high degree of male pattern alopecia (VII degree), there are 10 to 12 thousand follicular units left on the back of the head and behind the ears. Out of them 6000 to 8000 thousand units can be taken for transplantation during one or several procedures.
- This amount of follicular units is sufficient for coverage of bald area of any size. Amount needed for achievement of certain cosmetic effect in individual patient is being determined during face to face consultation.
- The result depends on the structure of hair (diameter, strengthens, color etc.) and number of follicular units. Patient can determine approximate number of grafts they need to achieve good result according to the scheme given below.
