Hair Transplantation is a vast web that covers things that can easily puzzle anyone planning to get a hair transplant. Already it takes a lot of time for a person to take this crucial decision to go for a hair transplant when he studies the cost, risks and expectations. On top of that, he still needs to decide which hair transplant method is the right fit for you.
Today, there exist a lot of hair transplantation centers everywhere. Merely trusting their words without exactly knowing the reason about the technique they will use during your hair transplant, can have irreplaceable consequences!
While knowing about the technique they use, it’s also important to know about the surgeon, their experience and certification. There also exists a black market of hair transplant where surgeries are heard to be performed in salons, general doctors, and non-doctors, with little to no training for the sake of earning money.
In this article, we have listed a set of criteria which will make it easier for you to choose the right hair transplant surgeon and method for your hair type!
Hair Transplant Methods
To keep things straightforward, there are basically two standard hair transplant methods that’s performed at any center, FUE and FUT
In FUE hair transplant, hair grafts are extracted one by one from the donor site and implanted at the bald area. These grafts are either kept in a plasma holding solution for a while or simultaneously implanted by the surgeon. The (Donor) extraction areas are usually back of the scalp and beard but in the case of Combination Hair Transplant, it can be any part of the body having hair.
In FUT hair transplant, a strip of the skin is carefully cut and removed from the back part of the scalp. This is followed by dissection of hair grafts from this strip and implantation to the recipient area (bald area).
Note: The strip of the skin is always removed from the scalp only.
Which Method is Right For You?
The hair transplant method, among FUE and FUT that is right for you, depends on the grade of baldness and a patient’s level of appetite to be ready with any approach. As in case of an advanced grade of baldness, you may need to go with FUT along with FUE. This is sometimes subjective as some patients are not ready with the FUT method, due to its more invasive nature. In Giga sessions, patients even go with combination hair transplant along with the other two methods.
The good news is, if the hair transplant case is entrusted to an experienced and well qualified surgeon, even an advanced grade of baldness like Norwood 7 can be treated solely with the FUE approach. Given that the donor areas of the scalp and beard are healthy.
Here are some parameters that can give a rough idea about the right method
- If the donor hair density of the scalp and beard is good, only the FUE method is sufficient for covering bald areas.
- If the donor hair density of the beard and scalp is not enough, a surgeon can go with combination hair transplant, Body hair + FUT + FUE, if the patient is not ready with FUT hair grafts can be taken from beard and chest.
- If the grade of baldness is quite severe, a Giga session, involving combination hair transplant and FUT
Note: A majority of the cases are treated with the FUE method without ever needing FUT…
The best way to find out which method is right for you is to get examined by a hair transplant surgeon first. This is because each patient case is unique and different. The surgeon not only examines the outer hair only, but also goes through your internal health factors and ongoing diseases that can impact the hair transplant procedure.
