PRP Therapy is used in many conditions like hair loss, for facial rejuvenation, in dentistry, and in orthopedics. Platelet rich plasma when injected comes in contact with tissue collagen which activates them and they release various growth factors. These growth factors stimulate the stem cells present in the hair root for growth.
Normal growth cycle of hair has many stages important ones are Anagen, catagen, and telogen. These phases have their own duration and repeat one after the other. Telogen phase is followed by resting phase and after this again phase of active growth ie anagen started. This transformation of phases is influenced by various growth factors and hormones. The resting phase duration is greatly increased in androgenetic alopecia. PRP Therapy by releasing various growth factors helps to convert the resting phase into active anagen phase of rapid growth.
Evidence of Result of PRP Therapy in male and female hair loss from the available published data is low but it will give promising results if the standardization is followed during preparation and injection. Proper Centrifugation at optimal temperature will yield the sufficient number of platelet in plasma which should be 4-5 times the normal count to achieve optimal results.
There is no proper consensus on the frequency of the procedure. At different clinic different interval varying from 2 weeks to 3 months is used. We at our centre use PRP at 1 month interval. We observe good result after 3-4 sessions of PRP. Here we are presenting a few cases of PRP with a good result after 3 months of treatment.
