Smoking is very dangerous for hair. You should be very cautious to keep yourself away from the smokers. (Avoid active as well as passive smoking). Hair Loss Details

Now day’s hair loss is becoming a major social problem in our society. Unfortunately, the younger population is suffering most. The most common cause of hair loss in a male is hormone and genetic and in female mainly genetic as well as hormone. The important cause in today’s modern era is pollution, food adulteration (high amount of pesticides in food) and stress. Our diet concept is also defective. We consume more calorie diet than nutritive diet. At Rejuvenate hair transplant centre two studies were conducted. One study was related to hair loss in relation to profession. It was found that maximum (26%) hair loss was in doctors, engineers and professionals. The hair loss was very less in labour class (5%) and not a single bagger was found bald. This study proves that hair loss is directly linked to stress. Another study was for vitamin level in patients with hair loss. The vitamin deficiency was found in more than 90% of patients which was of the severe grade. In more than 95% young female ferritin was deficient. So we can say we almost all are suffering from some or other vitamin deficiency. Another defect in our diet is a protein deficiency. At rejuvenate hair transplant centre we have designed a “REJUVENATE HAIR REGIME / RHR”.

We treat hair loss for men and hair loss for women on four levels. The first level is to treat stress, the second level is diet modification, the third level is vitamin, minoxidil and for male finasteride. The fourth level is PRP and low light laser therapy. Results of RHR comes in 4 to 6 months.

Hair Loss Resulting From Stress

Everyone gets stressed from time to time but what happens when stress becomes a regular part of daily life?  Stress can damage to the human body to any extent, from affecting our ability to cope and interact with the world around us to more physical symptoms such as hair loss. Stress can cause a hair loss condition known as Telogen Effluvium. Trigger for Telogen Effluvium can be anything from childbirth and pregnancy terminations to more severe emotional distress, often caused by personal traumas such as divorce, or an unexpected accident.

At any one time, around 10% of hair is naturally in its resting phase, known as the telogen phase. When a person feels intense stress – whether emotional or physical, the body releases a large amount of adrenaline; this transmits a signal to the hair follicles which causes them to enter the telogen (resting) phase early, where they stay for three months. During this phase, there is no new hair growth. This results in an uneven hair growth. The final stage of the telogen phase, after around three months, is shedding to allow new hair to grow through. Consequently, around three months after the trigger incident, sudden and drastic hair loss can occur. This causes thinning hair all over the scalp. It is often a temporary condition where the hair growth returns to normal approximately six to twelve months after the event.

However, in some cases, it can trigger Male Pattern Baldness or Female Pattern Hair Loss in those with the ‘balding gene’. For those people already experiencing these forms of hereditary hair loss, stress can accelerate the rate of shedding. These permanent, genetic conditions may require treatment to prevent severe all-over hair thinning or baldness.

Why are women more susceptible to Telogen Effluvium?

As there are a wider possible series of triggers that affect women, it is not surprising that this condition affects females more than males. Several potential triggers of Telogen Effluvium are related to childbearing and can only be experienced by women. Far from being an unusual affliction, it’s estimated that around a fifth of new mothers experience some hair loss after giving birth, with some studies placing the figure as high as 45%.This is in sharp contrast to pregnancy, when many women notice their hair feels stronger and looks glossier, largely thanks to the influx of progesterone and oestrogen the body releases around this time. After birth, the body instantly drops these hormone levels, which can shock hair into its resting phase, causing Telogen Effluvium. The same is true of women who experience hair loss following a termination or while taking a contraceptive pill – the sudden change in hormone levels is a key trigger.

How are men affected?

There are several potential triggers which affect both sexes equally; these can include surgery, extreme grief or stress, or some medical treatments that can cause both female and male hair loss. Undergoing major surgery places a huge strain on an individual, both physically and emotionally. Although procedures which affect the scalp, such as micrografting follicles, have an increased chance of causing Telogen Effluvium, it can be caused by any type of major surgery which causes a shock to the body. There are also a number of drugs associated with surgery, mainly blood thinners and cholesterol-lowering drugs, which have hair loss as an associated symptom.

Extreme stress, sudden shock or trauma are all thought to contribute to the onset of the autoimmune condition Alopecia Areata. This presents as rounded bald spots or patches anywhere on the scalp and, whilst in this mild to moderate form alopecia areata treatment can be successful in regrowing hair, there are versions of this condition – alopecia total is and alopecia universal is for which an effective treatment is yet to be found.

Why Does Stress Cause Hair Loss?

As hair is considered to have a non-essential body function, the body will react to stress in a way that it considers being least harmful, hence the hair growth cycle can be affected.

How to Treat Stress-Related Hair Loss?

It is important to resolve the issue that is causing the stress or learn how to manage the stress so it has a lesser impact. Examples of how to deal with ‘small’ stresses include taking up a hobby you enjoy, exercise, meditation, spending time with friends and reading. It is important that this becomes a regular part of your routine to help the body relax and release tension. For stress that is more severe, such as divorce, workplace bullying, job loss or the death of a loved one, it is advisable to seek the help of a counsellor, support group or therapist. Once the underlying stress is being managed, it is possible to use hair loss treatments to help restore the hair growth cycle to its optimum condition. There are two hair loss products that have been proven to be effective and safe. Treatment courses featuring Minoxidil (suitable for men and women) can be tailored to suit each individual and when used alongside the correct combination of hair growth boosters, can restore normal, strong and healthy hair production. Where there is underlying genetic balding, or where stress-related hair loss has triggered male pattern baldness in men with an inherited predisposition, finasteride 1mg can also be taken. This once-a-day oral tablet is only suitable for men aged 18 and over. Whatever is causing the hair loss, trying to cope with it can add to the stress already being experienced. A specialist will be able to give you an accurate diagnosis, answer any questions you have and discuss treatment options.

Summer Whether

It can be a wonderful time with the sun shining and the clear blue skies. However it is not a good match for your hair. Indian summers are infamous for being harsh and humid and lasting for almost eight months. Skin care and hair care rituals grow with the coming of the summer months and you find yourself spending more time on trying to protect your hair and skin from the harsh rays of the sun. Hair becomes frizzy, limp and loses its bounciness. With the addition of pollution, it becomes dull and no longer shiny and healthy. A number of hair care tips are available to provide nourishment to your hair even under the glaring sun.

hair care in summer

  1. During summers, your hair becomes dry and fizzy. Recently, the conventional hair wisdom has been that you should not shampoo every day. But daily shampooing is good as long as you use mild shampoo (ph balanced).  In fact, in summer days, excess sebum is produced on the scalp, making hair oily. So it’s important to wash hair and gently exfoliate the scalp regularly to keep it clean and healthy. A gentle shampoo for freshness and moisture in summer helps keep your scalp and hair clean and nourished. Over shampooing strips the scalp of natural oils. Therefore it must be avoided. Instead the scalp should be kept oil-free by using shampoo in alternative days.
  2. It is important to oil your hair at least once a week during summers. Hair oil nourishes your hair and provides it with the moisture that it has lost. In order to get rid of dryness, hair should be oiled and gently massaged. You can keep it overnight and wash it off the next day.
  3. Blow drying your hair results in frizziness. Therefore it should be avoided as much as possible during summers. Instead you should let your hair dry naturally and brush it with a wide-toothed comb after it has dried. This help in untangling the hair without damaging it.
  4. Avoid tying your hair in tight rubber bands and instead let it flow freely. This reduces the accumulation of sweat on the scalp which attracts dust and pollution and leads to Itchiness.
  5. Before going out, cover your hair with a scarf to protect it from the harsh sun. Sun rays can be very harmful to your hair and skin both. Therefore it should be kept covered. Also, you should never step out of the house without any sunscreen.
  6. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
  7. It is important to take at least 10 minutes out of your regular schedule and devote time to your hair and skin in order to avoid a lifetime of damage.

Important Facts

Important Facts about Hair Transplant-

  1. Have reasonable expectations- remember that donor hair is limited, so unlimited hair transplant is not possible.
  2. Discuss your option with your hair transplant surgeon to understand what can be achieved and what cannot be achieved.
  3. Understand that most patients need combination approaches; drugs, hair transplantation. Remember hair loss is a continuous process where as Hair transplantation is a one day event. Hair transplant corrects the baldness which has happened-it can’t prevent hair loss in future.
  4. Drugs are useful therefore to prevent future hair loss. However, none of the drugs are a cure for baldness.

There is no Medical Drug Cure for Baldness – Do not expect this
  1. Do not be excessively worried about side effects by reading individual opinions- the drugs available have been in use for decades. Discuss with your doctor about these side effects. Read authoritative websites such as ishrs.org or FDA IN USA or ahrsindia.org.
  2. Do not resort to unsubstantiated treatments without seeking proof; eg. Apple stem cells, mesotherapy with injections. Remember; if hairs could be grown easily, there would be no bald men in the world.
  3. Don’t be misled by advertisements which have exaggerated content; some examples include “unlimited hairs” scar less transplant”
  4. Don’t be too confused about FUT and FUE- after all these are only methods for donor hair harvesting; REMEMBER-you are doing HT to get results in front or the bald area. What is important is to first determine which method gives you best results to cover the front area. Discuss the option with the doctor and with his assessment opt for the best method, suited to you.
  5. Take care of grafts properly after the HT. adhere to the instructions.
  6. Do not be too anxious about the growth of hairs after HT-the hairs take time for growth- doesn’t asses it by days or weeks. Be patient.
  7. Any issues or side effects, consult your doctor. Do not jump into conclusions. Remember – most hair transplant are without side effects-even if they occur they are minor.
  8. Always have a plan for future. Hair loss is not to be treated in one session or one visit. It needs planning, understanding and execution.
