The 26th World Congress of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS 26th World Congress) was held in Los Angeles on October 10.
ISHRS is the biggest international non-profit society in the field of hair surgery that exists and which brings together a hundred of leading experts in treating hair loss gather to share their most up to date research, techniques, and diagnostic approaches from all over the world.
The aim is to provide psychological comfort to those who need a perfect appearance from the hair transplant.
In this conference, Dr. Seema Garg was invited to discuss and promote the healthy development of the global hair transplant industry with industry leaders and experts from all over the world.
More than 1000 delegates attend the meeting to get updates on new approaches in the field.
This year in the conference an educational program grab the attention of nearly all the distinguished attendees, namely, the Beware of the Hair Transplant Black Market session.
Nowadays, many unspecialized physicians and technical operators who have no authority even approaching the patients by promising the low price and guaranteed results only to increase the source of revenue and put a high risk of patient’s life. They perform surgeries by non-doctors with little or no training.
Dr. Seema Garg is the member of ISHRS for more than five years. This year she participated in the conference actively by presenting two oral papers in the general session. She also acts as one of the hosts in the welcome program for the newcomers.
The First Paper she presented on the “Measures to Increase Graft Survival, Hair Density and Hair Quality” in the general session on Graft survival and Graft Preparation which aims to explain the latest research and studies regarding graft survival.
This paper emphasizes all the measures taken at each and every step of hair transplant to improve the final outcome. All the steps of the surgery are equally important and the most important aspect is to reduce operative time and ischemia time of the grafts.
She introduces “Buddies technique of follicular unit excision” which helps to reduce the ischemia time and also the fatigue of the surgeon. Graft storage and graft handling is also equally important. We can also do simultaneous implantation to reduce out of body time. No touch to root technique for implantation helps to minimize trauma to delicate matrix cells. If we take care of all the factors that hair transplant result will be great.
The paper was very well appreciated by many of the hair transplant surgeons of the world.
Second paper which Dr. Seema Garg presented was on the “Reduction of Pain and its Fear for Better Acceptance of FUT”. Hair transplant by FUT has many advantages; the grafts which we take from the strip technique are from the most permanent zone and lasts longer than the grafts from FUE. But most of the patients now days refuse for the FUT because of fear of pain.
Dr Garg uses Ropivacaine infiltration postoperatively to reduce the postoperative pain and this helps a lot to reduce the anxiety of the pain. FUT is always a good option for the hair transplant in young age and in combination with the FUE in a higher grade of baldness.
As a host in newcomers Program, Dr. Seema Garg answered the queries of many newcomers. Host and newcomer interact and discuss various topics related to the hair restoration trends and the role of ISHRS in maintaining the ethics and giving education to the newcomers.
Dr. S. Garg also attended the workshop on the Trichoscopy. It was very well organized and give the opportunity to learn about various hair loss diseases other than androgenetic alopecia.
